ONE WORLD. 24 HOURS. 6 BILLION PERSPECTIVES.
Life In A Day is a historic global experiment to create a user-generated feature film, shot in a single day, by you. On July 24, you have 24 hours to capture a glimpse of your life on camera.
Holy crap, that’s tomorrow! I better get my camera ready. Funny how it works out that that’s the day I’ll be going from Kurobe to Tokyo to Australia. I should be able to get some good shots.

The movie
Currently Reading: ダーリンは外国人, or “My Darling is a Foreigner.” It’s an autobiographical manga (comic) series by a Japanese woman from Gifu about her relationship with her American, half-Hungarian, scruffy-bearded, Japanese-fluent husband. It’s an amusing look at their everyday life and the clashes that they experience with each other and the world around them—both culturally-based and personality-based. Needless to say, as an American, half-Hungarian, slightly-scruffy-bearded, nearly-Japanese-fluent man dating a Japanese girl from Toyama (one of Gifu’s bordering prefectures), it really hits home with me.
ダーリンは外国人was just made into a movie this year starring my favorite Japanese actress, Mao Inoue, and features a theme song by one of my favorite J-pop singers, aiko. If only they’d gotten ME to play the husband’s role… sigh…
Sometimes bottles of soda sold at conbinis will come with a free cell phone charm as a promotion. Currently, Pepsi has teamed up with Paramount to release a series of classic Paramount movie character “Be@rbrick” charms, including the Axel Foley one pictured above. I guess the promotion worked because I don’t even like Pepsi Nex, but I had to buy this. Beverly Hills Cop was one of the few movies my family had on VHS when I was a kid (and before my parents decided to get rid of all our TVs), so it holds a special place in my heart.
This is the poster for a movie coming out in Japan in a little over a week.
I know almost nothing about the movie but I am deeply amused by the fact that it stars Anton Yelchin, whom you may recognize as the young Chekov from the most recent Star Trek movie, or as Charlie Bartlett (from Charlie Bartlett).
Here’s one clip from Newsweek’s series of Oscar Roundtable discussion videos, with Sandra Bullock, Jeff Bridges, Woody Harrelson, Morgan Freeman, Carey Mulligan, and Gabourey Sidibe. Check out the whole series of videos or read the roundtable transcript here.
The first trailer for the remake of Death At A Funeral with Chris Rock.
When I heard about this I was really skeptical because I love love LOVE the original, but after seeing this trailer, I’m only slightly skeptical. The cast they got for this is absolutely fantastic. And I’m so pleased that they got Peter Dinklage to reprise his role from the original. I gotta say, though, Alan Tudyk was one of the very best things about the original, and as much as I do like James Marsden, it looks like there’s no way he’s going to live up to Tudyk’s performance.
