Yoshida-ryo: Dilapidated, decrepit and downright dirty
Roy Berman provides an inside look (including the above photos) at Kyoto University’s oldest still-in-use dormitory, Yoshida-ryo. It’s an all-wooden structure built in 1913 that remains practically unchanged and almost completely unmaintained. The appeal? The rent is only ¥2,500 (just under $30) per month—perfect for the financially challenged student. To find out more about Yoshida-ryo and to see even more pictures (or if you just want to feel thankful for the dorms your college provided), go read the article on CNNGo.com.
