Lawrence plays piano

My name is Lawrence, and I play piano. I also write songs and they're o.k., and I love TV and movies. I'm originally from St. Louis, but I now live in Los Angeles, and I'm hoping soon to move (back) to Japan. If you send me an email, I usually write back.

  1. 2007 Retrospective!

Well, with my entire family in town and my sister’s upcoming engagement party, at which I will be performing, I have been quite busy and will be for the next few days, so this may be my only post for the next week-ish.  Seeing as it’s the end of the year and all, I thought this would be a fitting time to take a look back at the movies of 2007.  And a damn good year it was…

    My Top 5:

    1. “Juno.”  I think we all saw that one coming.

    2. “Once.”  May very well be the reason behind my resurfacing passion for music.

    3. “No Country For Old Men.”  Javier Bardem is I think my new favorite actor.

    4. “Hot Fuzz.”  Simon Pegg is golden in my book.

    5. “Ratatouille.”  Didn’t actually see it until a few days ago, but man, Pixar knocked another one out of the park.

    Honorable Mentions:

The Darjeeling Limited.”  I had low expectations as I thought “The Life Aquatic” was especially drab, but “Limited” proved to be a great return to form for Wes Anderson.

Knocked Up” and “Superbad” proved Judd Apatow as the new king of comedy in Hollywood, and I think we’re all looking forward to seeing what else he can dish up for us in 2008.

I Am Legend.”  Proof that a seriously great dramatic movie can have zombies.

Lust, Caution.”  Steamy and Intense.  Ang Lee at his espionage/romance finest.

The Bourne Ultimatum.”  Now that is how you make an action movie.

    Waitress.”  Almost painfully cute.

Now there are several that I left out that are most likely awesome and should be on my top 5 or 10 or whatever, but they are not because, well, I haven’t seen them.  I’ll list those in two categories: movies that are supposedly awesome that I want to see, and movies that are supposedly awesome that, for whatever reason, I do not want to see.

Want to see (in no particular order):  ”Gone Baby, Gone,” ”3:10 To Yuma,” “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” “Into The Wild,” “Lars and the Real Girl,” “There Will Be Blood,” “Sweeney Todd,” “Eagle vs. Shark,” “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead,” “Rescue Dawn,” “Eastern Promises,” “Michael Clayton,” “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly,” “Sunshine,” “The Savages,” “Away From Her,” and “Wristcutters.”

Do not want to see (in no particular order):  ”Atonement.”

I don’t even have a good reason for that.  It just looks totally unappealing to me.  Not even the Keira Knightley wet t-shirt shots from the trailer are enough to get me to want to see that movie.

Tell me your favorites of 2007!
