2007 Retrospective!
Well, with my entire family in town and my sister’s upcoming engagement party, at which I will be performing, I have been quite busy and will be for the next few days, so this may be my only post for the next week-ish.  Seeing as it’s the end of the year and all, I thought this would be a fitting time to take a look back at the movies of 2007.  And a damn good year it was… My Top...

"Your perspective is very important to Apple..."
Hah. I just got an email from Apple requesting my feedback on the repair work that I just had done on my MacBook. My feedback (read: complaint), much like the repair ‘process,’ ended up dragging on and on and became quite long. It’s probably not all that interesting, but I figured since I took all the time to write it, I may as well copy it and post it here. So, here you go. ...

'Mad Man' Hamm joins Reeves and Connelly for "The...
Jon Hamm (pictured left), alumnus of my high school and star of the fantastic AMC show Mad Men, just signed on for the remake of the 1951 sci-fi film “The Day The Earth Stood Still.”  Hamm was recently nominated for best actor in a television drama by both the Screen Actors Guild and the Golden Globes for his role as 1950s-era Madison Avenue ad man Don Draper!  Mainly, I’m...

Weird enough that the boat is powered by a human fat-based biodiesel, right?  The best part, though, is that they’re beginning their voyage on my birthday, March 1.  Follow the link to see pictures and a diagram of the route.

"Juno" Review
I don’t even know how to begin talking about ”Juno,” which (finally) opened in St. Louis yesterday.  The movie is incredibly good.  And not only that, it made me feel incredibly good.  I heard the word ‘cute’ being tossed around a lot as I exited the theater, and it is.  It is very, very ‘cute,’ but not in a traditional way at all.  My mother, the...

"Hellboy II: The Golden Army" Trailer
I want so badly to be able to say that this looks awful, that it’s just not going to be worth my time.  I mean, the first “Hellboy” movie was such a disappointment to me, I’m afraid to get excited for this one and end with the same feeling—like getting nothing but socks on your birthday.  This teaser, though, makes it look like it might actually be pretty good for,...

WatchWatch
This is looking like it will be THE thriller of the next year.  Also, the top 20 people whose widget (like the one above) is ‘grabbed’ the most by their friends/anyone will win a private screening of “Cloverfield” before the release date, and good lord would I love that.  So tell your friends!  Point them over to this site!  Let’s get everyone in on this action!  If...

Rudy Giuliani is at Barnes-Jewish Hospital RIGHT NOW… just a few miles down the road!  Not that I like the guy, but that’s still pretty exciting.

End Break
It’s been a helluva half week, right?  ”I Am Legend” dominated the box office over the weekend, bringing in over $76 million and beating out “The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King” for the largest ever December opening.  The 7-minute ‘preface’ to “The Dark Knight,” shown before IMAX screenings of “Legend,” wowed audiences...

Short Hiatus
I hate to have to take “time off” of this blog so soon after starting up, but I’ve just got way too much going on right now that I need to force myself to abstain from the blog for the next day or so.  It’s probably way harder for me than it is for you; I’ve got so much I want to write about… sigh. Don’t worry, though, after these couple of days,...

Why Pregnant Women Don’t Tip Over - New York Times →
I had no idea that ‘pregnant-woman tipping’ was such a big thing.  I thought it was just something me and my friends did when we wanted to feel like we were kids again… out on the farm… cows laying on their sides in front of us… hooves a-kickin’ wildly.  I certainly didn’t think it was popular enough to warrant a NYTimes letter to the editor from Bobby-May...

A Call For Music
Hi everybody.  Thanks again for reading.  I’m really enjoying writing and posting things here, so I hope you’re enjoying reading them.  I’ve made a short list of some more trailers that I’d like to share/discuss with you all, but I am about to go to bed, so you should expect those tomorrow.  Before I turn in, though, I have a request. I will soon be playing piano and...

NBC’s answer to YouTube.  It’s really pretty awesome.  They have tons of shows, both current and retired, that you can watch full episodes of with “limited commercial interruption”—meaning that they show 30-second advertisements to you in the places where commercial breaks would normally go—in the same way that they stream tv episodes on the network websites....

WatchWatch
WARNING: not for the faint of heart.  This trailer for the upcoming Japanese film “Machine Girl” contains a lot of blood.  Like, to an absurd level.  I’m not gonna lie, this movie looks awful.  But there are enough people claiming that it will the the cult movie of 2008 that it may be worth a mention.  At least the movie is self-aware, as evidenced by the arm made out of tempura....

Trailer Review, or movies I want to see (part one)
In the future, I’ll probably either post trailers as they become available, or I’ll do a weekly review of new trailers, but since this is the first post of them, I’m just going to put up trailers of upcoming movies that I most want to see. Since it’s opening this friday, I’ll start off with “I Am Legend,” starring Will Smith.  If you haven’t heard of...

One more thing before I get going
I really have to say I’m a big fan of tumblr (the host of this blog).  They have visually appealing and incredibly easy-to-use stuff and it’s wonderful. My only problem with the tumblr pages is the lack of the ability to comment on things that I post.  I love to hear what you think about things.  I don’t want this to be just about me.  So, first of all, I would encourage you to...

The Lawrence Renaissance
Hello and welcome!  Whatever the reason is that you’re here, I’m glad you made it. My name is Lawrence Denes.  I live in Saint Louis, Missouri, in the good ol’ U.S. of A.  I am a musician, and until very recently I mainly played for my own personal satisfaction and didn’t make a huge effort to put myself out there in the world.  I have, however, fully realized just how much...
